I give up on GitHub
After years of defending GitHub, Theo announces he's done. The trigger: an accumulation of Copilot-pushed UI, Issues/Projects neglect, broken notifications, and the perception that Microsoft is treating GitHub as an AI distribution channel rather than a forge.
Specific grievances
- Copilot review and Copilot suggestions injected into UI without opt-out parity for orgs.
- Issues and Projects haven't seen meaningful product work in years.
- Notifications still routinely lose context across mobile/web/email.
- PR review UX regressions vs. comparable tools (Graphite, Gerrit).
Where to go
- Cliffhanger for the follow-up "What's next?" video; Theo signals he will recommend Forgejo/Codeberg and call out Pierre as the promising commercial entrant.
